Who May Submit Work to FILE?
All amateur and professional photographers are encouraged to submit their work to FILE magazine. You may submit as often as you like.
What Can I Submit?
FILE magazine accepts single images or multiple images with a unified theme (projects). All subjects are acceptable but please make sure what you submit is
~ Your best work
~ Your own work
~ Not hard-core pornography
How Can I Submit?
You can
Use the Submissions Form to upload your image(s) for review. Please make sure the images are .jpg or .gif files that are less than 1 MB or
Use the feedback form to send a URL that directly links to your image(s).
IMPORTANT: Please make sure your images are at least 800px wide! Small images are very hard to evaluate and can slow the publication process.
EQUALLY IMPORTANT: Don't let your photo fall into the pile of Anonymous Postings. Every once in a while, due to the vagaries of Gmail or our own sheer incompetence (usually the latter), we lose track of the artist behind a photo that we want to publish. However, often people get too creative in the naming of their files (e.g., this guy I saw while walking to the store.jpg) or too generic (e.g., tree.jpg). As a result, it is hard, if not impossible, to find the notifying e-mail with the information that we use to give people their due. A couple of simple tips to avoid this: (1) Make the file name unique, but (2) not too unique, (3) keep it under 20 - 25 characters and (4) do not use spaces. Thanks!
All Submissions Require
~ A name or pseudonym
~ A working e-mail address
Submissions Should Include
~ A URL to your web site, if you have one (flickr links are welcome)
~ A title for the work (if one is not provided, it will be labeled "Untitled")
~ Information about the work (technical, location, date, etc.)
~ Information about you for The Contributors section
How Are accepted images handled?
You will be notified via e-mail if your submission is accepted; we're sorry, but we cannot respond to every submission. Accepted images are resized (minimum 800px width X 600px height) and optimized for the web. A copyright (©) will accompany the provided name/pseudonym along with a link to the photographer's web site. All accepted work is subject to
file's disclaimers and weasel words
