Giverny ~ Monet's Garden is a project by photographer Simon Puschmann that features images from the impressionist Claude Monet's garden in Giverny that were captured on 8mm film and scanned. Simon explains his project:

The Giverny images were shot with a Braun Nizo Super 8mm camera on Kodak Super 8mm Surveillance (color negative) film that was scanned and printed. No alterations to the images were made except color and contrast corrections.

The purpose of the series is quite unusual. My wife desperately wanted to visit Claude Monet's garden in Giverny and asked me to take some "nice" pictures. As I hate the expected, I decided to shoot with my Super 8 camera.

I simply loved the idea of shooting the garden of an impressionist painter in a photo-impressionistic way. In my personal work I prefer not to just shoot what I see but how it felt to me while I shot it. Each personal photograph is my personal impression of the place and subject as I experienced it.

Simon's novel technique has not only captured the essence of Monet's Gardens, but it captures the spirit of the man and his work. We can only hope that Simon's wife is as amazed by the results as we are.
