Misspent Youth is a selection of photographs by Andrew Newson. Andrew returned to his childhood school, simply to create a visual reminder of his time there. He says

I decided to make a series of photographs at my old school, some 16 years after I left.

The project first came about out of curiosity to see what my old school was like now and to provoke some old memories for me. But it became very clear, quickly that these images were connecting with others too, the little details that trigger memories of our school days and growing up were all there.

We learn so much more than how to read and write in these crucial years, we learn how to live. When returning to a place like this with a few more years behind us in life experience, it puts a slightly different perspective on things, for me, it makes me wonder how different things would be if I re-lived my "misspent youth" with the knowledge I now have.

Andrew's unsentimental images are infused with melancholy and loneliness, and prove once again the truth in the old aphorism that You Can't Go Home Again.
